I had known about the Theo Chocolate Factory in Fremont, but I had yet to go and enjoy a factory tour. Theo Chocolate is a local company and not only do their chocolates taste fantastic they are the first "Organic and Fair Trade Chocolate factory in North America".
Going on the tour was fun and you get to sport hair meshes to keep your hair out of the chocolate. When you first start the tour you are taken into a room, get to sit down and listen to the history and mission of the company. While this happens chocolate samples are passed around, going from dark to milky.
After that is done you head on into the factory, stopping in a room that overlooks the machinery. Here you are told more about the process of making the chocolate and can get a view of their vintage machines.
Those are chocolate nibs down below, which are without their sugar or milky additions, so taste bitter.
After a walk around the steamy factory floor we were taken into the "Confectionary room" where treats are made such as chocolate dinosaurs.
I would highly recommend a trip to the Theo Chocolate Factory when in town. You just need to sign up on their website and it costs seven dollars. Plus you get a discount at the store when you go on the tour, which means more delicious chocolate for all!
